At 15:40 this afternoon, E61 was dispatched for a rescue with injuries after the vehicle rolled over several times on Route 32 Eastbound just after 95 prior to Route 1.  The crew from 61 was first arriving on scene that provided basic life support until they could transfer patient care to Paramedic 75 who transported the patient injured from the motor vehicle accident.

In the early morning hours on Sunday, Paramedic 65 responded for a mutual aid box in Anne Arundel County.  Units arrived on location to discover heavy fire from the 4th floor apartment on the 3500 block of Fort Meade Road. A second alarm was requested and Truck 6 was dispatched shortly after.  The crew from Truck 6 was sent for search & rescue and cleared over 35 apartments on the 4th, 5th, and 6th floors removing four additional occupants.  The fire extended from the 4th floor up to the 5th floor apartment, with some also into the 6th.  Paramedic 65 was responsible for rehab and medical evaluations of units on the fireground.  Additional units from Station 1, Anne Arundel County, Prince Georges County, and Fort Meade were also on scene.  After several hours, Truck 6 and Paramedic 65 were placed in service.

Shortly before 21:00 hours, Rescue Engine 62 was dispatched to the 6100 block of Washington Blvd for a reported fire at the White Elk Motel.  When units first arrived on scene, they found a 2nd floor unit fully involved with fire with occupants already evacuated.  A second alarm was quickly requested and the fire was contained in 15 minutes.  Additional units from Howard County, Anne Arundel County, Baltimore City, and Baltimore county also responded to this incident.  There were no injuries to report  from civilians or firefighters.

Santa will be making his Christmas rides through the neighborhood of Savage bringing joy and happiness to children and adults in our community. Briefly after 10pm on Tuesday evening, units from Station 6 were alerted for a vehicle fire after a motor vehicle collision.  Prior to HCDFRS arrival, one patient was pulled from the car by the police department.  Engine 61 arrived on location to a vehicle fire which was quickly extinguished.  Paramedic 65, EMS 1, and PG Ambulance 849 were also called to the scene to deal with the two patients on location.  After patient packaging, both individuals were transported priority two to Shock Trauma.

In the evening of October 6th, units from Station 6 were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident on Route 32 at Dorsey Run Road.  Units arrived on location to find a car into a guardrail, in which the patient was transported priority 2 to Shock Trauma.

Its with great sadness we annouce the death of Asheville, North Carolina Captain Jeffrey Bowen of Rescue Company 3.  37 year old Captain Bowen was fatally injured while doing work on the 5th floor of a Medical Arts Building that was reported to be on fire at approximately 1 P.M. today.  He was a 13 year veteren of the fire service and leaves behind a wife and three kids.  Rest Easy Brother.

At 10:15pm, a fire was reported across the street from the Route 1 Flea Market at Central Transport, a trucking facility at 7471 Washington Blvd in Elkridge. When units from Howard County arrived on location, they discovered a trailer ablaze with that extension to a nearby building. The fire took approximately 45 minutes to be completely under control. During the incident, Route 1 was shut down for approximately 30 minutes.

Chief 6, Utility 6A, Truck 6 responded on the incident from Savage to assist with the fire attack in additional to other apparatus from Howard, Anne Arundel, and Baltimore County. Approximately 30 employees who had been working in the building escaped before rescue teams got to the scene. There were no injuries as a result of the incident, either with firefighters or civilians. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Units from Station 6 & Station 9 were dispatched to a call at 12:51pm at Assateague Drive @ 175 EB.  HCDFRS personnel arrived on scene to discover a vehicle versus motorcycle in the median of Route 1 south of 175 with one patient.  The patient was transported priority 2E to Shock Trauma in Baltimore.

After a busy weekend crews were alerted for a auto accident with entrapment at Route 175 and Dorsey Run Road.  Units arrived to find a mini van into the rear of a tractor trailer with the driver trapped.  The crew from Rescue Engine 62 extracted the priority one patient in less then 15 minutes.  The patient was transported priority one to Shock Trauma.

A call came into the dispatch center early this morning at 1:36am at 10051 North Second Street for reports of a trailer on fire. Rescue Engine 62 was first arriving engine who encountered a single wide trailer fully involved with slight extension to a midway trailer. It took less than 30 minutes to contain the fire, which resulted in no injuries to civilians or firefighters. Rescue Engine 62, Paramedic 66, Brush 68, and Chief 6 responded on the incident in addition to other units from Howard County and mutual aid from Prince George’s and Anne Arundel County.

Late Friday evening at 11:45 p.m., firefighters from Howard and Prince George’s Counties were dispatched to a fire reported on the balcony of an apartment complex on 8919 River Island Drive. Units from Station 6 (P66, A65, E62, T6, CF6, CF6A, CF6B) were first on scene, who uncovered a small fire on the third floor balcony with extension to the outside area, eves, and roof of that apartment. Crews on location laddered the building and opening up the ceiling in the fire room, as well as ventilating the roof. Within 20 minutes, the fire was under control. No injuries were reported to civilians or fire department personnel, however, three families were displaced from their apartments due to water, smoke, and fire damage and were found vacant units on-site by the property management company.

A call went out in Station 10’s area on the afternoon of May 15th at approximately 1:06 pm for a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of  Guilford Road/Kindler Road, and while units were enroute, dispatch advised them that the driver of the vehicle was pinned in their vehicle. The call was upgraded as RE62 & P65 were enroute to included additional units to assist with the entrapment. Paramedic Rescue Engine was the first arriving unit on scene, assuming incident command. They discovered a two vehicle collision with three patients, with another patient trapped. Three patients were transported to area hospitals, in addition to one patient to Shock Trauma. No firefighter injuries reported and no damaged equipment.

At approximately 8:32 pm on Saturday evening, units from Howard County responded to a welfare check for an individual reportedly exposed to chemicals in the air at the Sleep Inn hotel on North Second Street.  As units were en route, they were advised that several patients had been exposed to the chemicals.  Mutual aid was provided from Anne Arundel, and Prince George’s counties in addition to Howard County units.  Firefighters began to evacuate 20 occupants of the building upon arrival, and discovered levels of 70-120 parts per million on the upper levels, where the OSHA permissible exposure limit is 50 parts per million of air per cubic meter as an 8 hour time weighted average.  The incident quickly turned into 11 occupants of the building being treated and transported to local hospitals.
